Before “The Hangover” made him a household name, Zach Galifianakis was an underground stand-up comedian. This movie captures his performance at The Purple Onion in San Francisco interspersed with an interview conducted by Brian Unger with Zach’s “brother”.
His routine can only be described as eccentric and off the wall. Sometimes sitting at the piano sipping beer, sometimes at an easel with Sharpee in hand, and only occassionaly standing up he delivers hilarious stories and one liners with ease. For me the highlight is when Zach points out, and starts a conversation with, an audience member who turns out to be an executive at NetFlix (Whose Red Envelope production company produced the movie).
This video is a hilarious introduction to Zach’s stand-up, and much better than his Comedy Central special.
