Murder By Numbers is yet another retelling of the Leopold and Loeb story, this time starring Sandra Bullock as a detective trying to catch a teenage Ryan Gosling who, along with an accomplice, try to get away with the perfect murder.
While most of the acting is stiff (not Sandra Bullock who is actually quite good) and the pacing switches between a snails and a cheetahs at the drop of a hat Murder By Numbers is a barely intriguing cat and mouse game. The writers think they have created a psychological thriller but the problem is… it’s not. There is nothing suspenseful or thrilling. Very few of the characters, on either side of the law, are likable or relatable and the ending feels forced. I still can’t decide if it was supposed to be a twist.
By the end I basically felt like I had watched an extra-long episode of Law and Order. It’s a decent Sunday afternoon movie. You can clean the house with it on in the background and barely pay attention.
