We are supposed to be eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day but I know I rarely do. Any way I can fit another serving of fruit in is a good thing. When I came across Dole’s new Apple Cinnamon Fruit Crisp it looked somewhat healthy and with real fruit. I had to try it.
The Fruit Crisp has two parts. First you separate the bottom and top sections and open each one. The bottom, the bowl of apple goodness, goes in the microwave for 30 seconds. Afterwards you pour the contents of the top, a “crunch oat topping”, into the apples.
The taste is pretty darn close to a real apple crisp considering it took a tiny fraction of the time. But there is a dangerous downside. Each bowl (there are two bowls in a package) is two “servings”. Each serving is 160 calories, mostly due to the large amount of sugar added to the apples that makes everything taste so good. And let’s face it, you aren’t going to just have three spoonfuls and leave half the bowl for tomorrow night. So that’s 320 calories. Not such a healthy way to add fruit into your diet. And quiet frankly, it’s good but it’s not that good.
