I remember when Parks And Recreation first aired I checked out the first episode and was not impressed. It was just another mockumentary with kooky workplace antics ala The Office. And while that is true it’s better than I first gave it credit for.
Amy Poehler does a good job being the aspiring local government bureaucrat who thinks she is working her way up the ladder to the White House. Aziz Ansari, who I normally can’t stand, is quite funny in small doses and his one liners are the highlight of the show. Nick Offerman takes a break from his boat building to play the stoic boss with no aspirations.
Unlike most sitcoms the first season has a story arc that runs the entire season. After a dozen or so episodes the once funny premise runs thin but the characters are so quirky and funny you don’t care.
It’s not a brilliant, groundbreaking show but it is funny and sometimes that’s all you want.
